Contemporary art is staged in Rome at the MAXXI - National Museum of XXI Century Arts with two exhibitions, inaugurated by the Minister Giuliano Urbani, and the Director General of the DARC Pio Baldi which will open to the public Nov. 5, 2004. The first exhibition devoted to the work of Stefano Arienti, the second installation, "Where is our place?" artists Ilya and Emilia Kabakov.
Stefano Arienti The exhibition, curated by Anna Mattirolo, is produced in collaboration with the Rebaudengo in Turin, where it will be presented from 24 March to 8 May 2005. Staged in three suites of MAXXI, is one of the selections of the artist's most significant. Stefano Arienti's research addresses many of the issues related to the overall "system overview" in the belief that artistic practice can help to awaken the perceptions dulled by overexposure to the stimuli to which we are subjected. In this way the viewer is addressed by involving them in a self-critical and conscious thought process.
Active since 1983, Arienti manipulates and uses common materials testing and developing in each novel methodologies and techniques. Bending, piercing, or burning the paper, deleting text and images, fabrics and photographs tracing the artist leaves the audience into her world dominated by acts appear to be repetitive, playful gestures borrowed from the children, and the lightness of the game.
The more than 60 works chosen for the occasion offer a comprehensive framework of Arienti, the first examples we think works specially for the exhibition. The result is an insight into the complex personality of a versatile artist who has reinvented their language effectively becoming one of the landmarks of the Italian art of the past twenty years.
